Summary: This hardbound book of 128 is out of print. Is a precursor to Elgiva Nicholls' more familiar book "Tatting: Technique and History". I noticed that there are several photos in both books. The latter book which is still in print today (Tatting: Technique and History) would be akin to a "best of album" for a recording artist. Elgiva wrote 3 books to my knowledge.

Summary: Hardcover book from 1971. One of Elgiva Nicholls' 3 books on tatting that I know of. It is 119 pages of Elgiva's thoughts such as "The Lark's Head Knot", "Tatting a Chain with continuous thread" and a more indepth look at one of the tatted cord techniques we call "Perle tatting". Elgiva introduced many techniques we use in modern tatting. There are a few colorplates, but mostly black and white photos, and what looks like hand drawn diagrams although this book is from a prominent publisher (Charles Scribner and Sons). She also introduces a piece that looks like stained glass on page 81 (color plate 111) called "Rose Flamboyant", an advanced piece. She explains many fun picot techniques. There is a section completely dedicated to "The Node Stitch". Elgiva's books are definitely for the "serious tatter". There are not a lot of patterns in the book because it about exactly what the title implies "Tatting Techniques"!
